The Audi TT Ultra Quattro Demonstrates a Lightweight Design Approach

Audi has revealed its TT Ultra Quattro concept vehicle which makes use of a range of technologies to keep weight to a minimum. Use of composites, magnesium and plastics all lead to a vehicle that is 100 kg (220 lbs) lighter than the previous model.

Weight saving features include:

  • Carbon fiber rear wing supported by an aluminum base
  • Carbon fiber door panels
  • Fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) seats
  • Carbon fiber reinforced plastic wheels with aluminum spokes
  • Optimized components throughout the vehicle

The image below gives a good overview of the other areas where weight has been shed to achieve a total curb weight of 1,111 kgs (2,449.34 lbs).
